We are pleased to announce the launch
of our latest website redesign project, the Center for the Art of Translation. The
organization’s mission is to find new, overlooked and underrepresent voices,
brought into English by the best translators and to celebrate the art of translations. The nonprofit organization is based in San
Francisco and was founded in 2000 by Olivia Sears, an Italian translator.
Project6 Design’s task was to take two
disjointed and somewhat ineffective websites (both CAT entities) and to build a
consistently branded ecommerce site. Our
job involved creating an efficient, intuitive way to allow the Center to weave
together the works of thousands of writers, translators, editors, and other
contributors. They also wanted to highlight
the work of the translators, to build an audience for literature in translation,
and to honor cultural diversity throughout the world.
Once you take a look at the new
website, you will discover a visually appealing site that is easy to navigate
as well as to narrow down your area of interest. It was also designed to make it easy to
update monthly events and to sort through their large offering of workshops,
conferences, lectures, and other news. Furthermore, the redesigned site includes updated biographies of at
least 1,100 authors and translators who were published in the literary
translation journal, Two Lines: World
Writing in Translation over a 20 year period.
