One recent project we were proud to be a part of was helping the Draper Richards Kaplan Foundation (DRK), a global venture philanthropy firm, to design and development a more effective website.  The foundation supports early stage, high impact social enterprises that are working on some of society’s most difficult problems with the goal of making the world a better place.   

The task for the team at Project6 was to help DRK expand their reach and unequivocally communicate the foundation’s powerful mission of supporting individuals who wish to change the world.  Before we came on board, their website was only designed for desktops, and was difficult to navigate in some areas.  However, most importantly it did not highlight the incredible stories of entrepreneurs and organizations that had benefited from the foundation. The old website also under-utilized DRK’s fantastic photography assets. 

Working together with the foundation members, we helped to develop a site that matched the tone of the inspiring work and was also easy to manage.  The project included designing a longer page scrolling experience across the site to showcase the various organizations as well as breaking news.  Our team developed a simplified and streamlined architecture that created a single, unified portfolio section that allows visitors to browse through the people and organizations associated with the foundation.  Another area we developed was the “community section” where alumni and entrepreneurs offer encouragement and share newsworthy events and resources.

Providing a Library with An Organized, Attractive Website

Project6 Design was recently tasked with the job of helping the Belvedere Tiburon Library and the Belvedere Tiburon Library Foundation to establish websites that were visually appealing, functional and easy-to-use.  Our team worked with the library’s team to create a strong brand identity as well as a completely redesigned website.   

The problem with the library’s original website was it lacked organization, consistency and clarity and had pages filled with lots of confusing section designs, logos and other graphic elements.  Our job involved organizing the library’s extensive resource materials and information to make the site easy for users to navigate and quickly find what they need.  In addition the library staff wanted the site to not only be aesthetically pleasing, but simple to update and maintain.  Once you visit the Belvedere Tiburon Library site, we are sure you will agree we accomplished our task.    

One of the first things we did was to collaborate with the library team to establish a new brand mark, color palette and stationery system.  The newly designed individual logos for the library and the foundation are distinct, bright, and clean. 

The Project6 team created two separate websites for the library and foundation; however, they share the same design templates, color palette and content management system.  This ensures both of the systems are easy to manage while offering a distinct online presence for visitors as each site has its own URL, logo and architecture.

Designing a Website for a Non-Profit with an Important Message

While we are always proud of the content of our work, we are especially gratified to help a non-profit organization create a website to more effectively convey their message.  The mission of the free resource website, Career Girls, is to provide valuable tools to help girls explore a wide range of career paths. 

With 7,000 inspirational and educational videos featuring female role models, the careers range from musicians to astronauts to veterinarians and the site continues to add new careers every week.  The information provided at Career Girls is beneficial to girls as well as educators and guidance counselors, and each career includes an overview, fact sheet, and educational requirements.

Our job was to improve the website’s performance by replacing an outdated Drupal 6 content management system with the newer Drupal 7 CMS, which provided the level of support the site required.  The old CMS’s outdated backend posed security risks and also failed to highlight the depth of content available to engage and inspire visitors to the site.  Using our new CMS, we were able to streamline the process for adding new content, and provide the site with a brand new homepage experience.  The homepage now has lots of visual appeal and immediately engages visitors with a carousel featuring thumbnails of different videos and a brightly colored menu.

Visitors can explore the idea of different careers, and once they choose a path, they are shown videos from role models along with other pertinent information regarding the career.   Even if a girl does not have a specific interest, the Project6 team designed a quick form for the girls to fill out to narrow down the field.  The CMS also allows for content to be filtered by most recent videos, featured videos, popular videos and a keyword search of all 7,000 videos.  In additions we designed the Career Girls’ website to offer desktop, tablet or mobile device users a consistent experience.

Project6’s scope of work for the Biscoff cookie company was to design a visually appealing site that allows visitors to explore the company’s offerings as well as recognizes the brand’s heritage (they have used the same recipe since 1932).  Biscoff also needed a site that allows them to effectively market seasonal promotions for both their retail customers and wholesale consumers.  Our graphic design work included adding sumptuous pictures to help convey the Biscoff story, and supporting features that now make it easy for Biscoff to highlight their product and seasonal interests as needed.

Our team rebuilt a custom Drupal site that is flexible enough for their site administrator to easily maintain and update.
